The Devorris Family has been a constant in local philanthropy.

Don Devorris completed his electrical engineering degree from Penn State University. After service in the Army followed by 3 years in New York, Don returned to his hometown of Altoona in 1959. Don married the love of his life, Nancy Scott, and they had two children, Andrea (Cohen) and Philip.

Through Don’s leadership, a small service company titled Blair Electric quickly grew to have over 200 employees. Don was a believer in finding the right partners and employees. With this belief, Blair Electric became Blair Companies and eventually expanded into real estate development, manufacturing, and construction, with offices across the United States and Asia.

Don loved Altoona, proudly calling it “Utopia.” His father was active in community development, a characteristic that Don inherited and passed on to Andrea and Philip. Don spent years working to improve the area hospital system, Penn State Altoona, and Downtown Altoona. Don passed away in 2017, leaving a huge void in the community.

Nancy Devorris continues to serve the Altoona community today. She is one of the founding members of the CPCF. She is active with the UPMC Altoona Foundation, Blair County Arts Foundation, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Agudath Achim Synagogue, and the Greater Altoona Jewish Federation.

The Devorris Downtown Enhancement Fund was established in September of 2017, in memory of Don. In 2020, a beautiful new pavilion will be built in downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza, with thanks to the generous contributors to the fund in Don’s memory.
