Combating childhood hunger is the goal of local backpack programs. Hundreds of Blair County school aged children have limited food sources on weekends, when they are away from school offered breakfast and lunch programs.

Backpack programs were created, across the country, to help feed school aged students and thereby prepare them for learning. The CPCF has active funds for three local backpack programs; Mountain Lion BackPack, Scarlet Dragon Packs, and Tiger Packs.

Each program coordinates volunteers and mass quantities of food donations. Backpacks are packed by teams of volunteers and taken to local elementary schools. From there, the full backpacks are set home with students on Fridays and returned empty on Mondays.

Each of these programs is working hard to assist in feeding their respective communities’ youth, while being discreet to prevent children from being embarrassed. All three programs are funded with donations and the generosity of others.
